It all started with potty training. Ashley Gilley’s 3-year-old son, Warren, had been asking for a cow. So, Ashley decided to use it as incentive when he was having trouble with potty training. She told Warren that if he used the potty for five days in a row, then they would get him a bottle calf.

Warren made it five days, jumped off the toilet, and yelled, “Let’s go get my cow!” Since then, the family has added three other cows to their Virginia farm.

Ashley, a professional photographer, thought the new cows would make the perfect additions to a photo shoot with her sons. The shoot would celebrate Warren’s potty training, and his younger brother WyLee’s six-month birthday.

The photos with the calves are stunning and capture everything that is great about growing up in the country.

Much of Ashley’s photography centers around newborns, children, and horses. She certainly has a talent for working with young children and capturing images that their parents will treasure forever.
