Miracle 5-Year-Old Girl Has One Wish Before Her 4th Open-Heart Surgery: To ‘Marry’ Her Best Friend, So Parents Deliver
Five-year-old Sophia Chiappalone from Connecticut is a bright and bubbly young girl, but beneath her happy-go-lucky exterior is a true fighting spirit. Sophia was born with a genetic heart defect, and she wasn’t expected to live past her second birthday. As a baby, she spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital and is now preparing to undergo her fourth open-heart surgery.
But before she does that, Sophia has something very special in mind: “marrying” her best friend, Hunter!
To make this dream come true, Sophia’s mother Kristy got permission from Hunter’s family to stage a traditional and totally adorable “wedding photoshoot” for the two besties.
Both kids dressed up in traditional bride and groom attire for the big shoot.
“That’s all she wanted in the world, was to marry the love of her life,” Kristy said.
“She was born with half of a heart — the whole right side of her heart was missing.”
“She’s a walking miracle.”
“There is no life expectancy at this time because there’s no reason for her to be alive.”
Photographer Marisa Balletti-Lavoie of Sassy Mouth Photography was more than happy to stage the amazing photoshoot, which she shot at a local park.
“I was so honored and excited to be the one to document the big day!!” Marisa wrote on Instagram.
“I teared up watching her get all dressed up,” Kristy said.
“I was terrified…that this may be the only time I see my baby in a wedding dress.”
“It was pure innocence in the purest form.”
“My heart aches with joy with the people standing behind Supergirl on this fight.”
“She’s fought to be alive since her first breath, but that’s all she knows.”
“Most people wait a lifetime for someone who wouldn’t stand by them through such illness.”
“She met a best friend and love of her life at 3. Who does?”
Hopefully one day, Kristy will get to see her beautiful daughter walk down the aisle for real.
Best of luck on your next surgery, Sophie!
