Teachers are charged with the task of educating our youngest generations. But good teachers don’t just teach out of textbooks; they also teach important lessons about life. For one teacher, though, his own students taught him a beautiful lesson about love.

Troy Rogers is a history teacher at Clements High School in Limestone County, Alabama. Rogers and his wife didn’t have kids of their own, so their dog, Chip, became their canine kid.

Chip was a beloved family member for more than 10 years, but as the dog aged, he started to go blind.

One day, Chip wandered off. Rogers alerted local media outlets and searched all over the area. He was devastated by Chip’s disappearance, and sadly Chip was never found.

Rogers’ students were saddened to hear of Chip’s loss, but they came up with a special idea to help ease Rogers’ heartbreak. They began collecting money, but were careful to conceal what they were doing from Rogers. Gradually, the students collected hundreds of dollars.

With enough money to put their idea into action, the students presented Rogers with a very special surprise. Her name is Clementine, and she’s an adorable puppy.

Clementine was named after the school’s mascot. According to students, the best part of the surprise was seeing Rogers’ reaction to his new puppy.

Senior Miranda Ezell said that she instantly teared up when she saw her teacher’s face. Other students agreed that their teacher, who has helped to educate students for more than 20 years, was more than deserving of this surprise.

We couldn't be more in love with this baby. We've had a fun day of visiting Dad, eating Taco Mama leftovers and playing with this sweet girl.

Rogers explained that he thinks adults can learn a lot from kids, but his students’ extremely generous actions still surprised him.

He says that receiving Clementine was the most memorable day in his teaching career. He plans to continue teaching, and even hopes to get Clementine a canine sister one day.
